Manchester City announced on Monday that Mateo Kovacic had undergone surgery on an Achilles injury. The Croatian midfielder will miss the club’s participation at the upcoming Club World Cup and, according to MEN, will be sidelined for three months.
Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic also provided an update on the Manchester City midfielder. “He had an injury and missed the [FA] Cup final,” said the 58-year-old. “He thought rest would help but it didn’t. Pain and swelling appeared concerning the heel tendon. Manchester City decided he must undergo surgery. The recovery is expected to take about three months.”
Despite a contract until 2027, Kovacic’s Manchester City remains uncertain. After the departure of Kevin de Bruyne, the Citizens are working on a deal to sign Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders. There’s already an agreement between club and player, and all that remains is the Premier League side finding an agreement with Milan, which they believe could be around €65m.
