The Santiago Gimenez negotiations hung in the balance for a while, but eventually AC Milan got their man. What package was it that convinced Feyenoord? Details have emerged.

As MilanNews report, the starting asking price from Feyenoord was €40m as they hoped to keep him for now – presuming no club would pay it – to then further raise thedemands in the summer, perhaps after another hefty batch of goals.

Milan tried for Gimenez in the summer and remained in constant contact with Rafaela Pimenta, who handled the operation both as an intermediary and as Gimenez’s agent. The Rossoneri decided to accelerate for a No.9, and after being contacted the Mexican let Feyenoord know that he wanted to go immediately.

There was supposedly an agreement between Feyenoord and Gimenez to let him leave in January for a figure of around €35m plus €5m in easily achievable bonuses, which is why the talk of a €40m price tag was so strong.

The work of Giorgio Furlani and Pimenta was meticulous, diplomatic and incisive with the Dutch management, who on more than one occasion had let it be known that they did not like the rumours that were circulating about the progress of the negotiations.

In the end, when the deal was closed and the two clubs shook hands for a fixed base of €28.5m plus bonuses to reach a maximum of €35m. These are the real figures of the Gimenez deal with Milan, and now we get to see what ‘El Bebote’ can do on the field.
