Monaco approach West Ham over Edson Álvarez loan move | OneFootball

According to Fabrizio Romano, AS Monaco have made an approach for West Ham defensive midfielder Edson Álvarez (27) to take the player on a potential loan move. Romano has reported that the Principality side made the approach in order to discuss conditions to bring Álvarez to Stade Louis II on a loan basis.The Mexican has played 16 games so far this season for the Hammers, and would likely see a move to Monaco as an opportunity to be involved in Champions League football and be a key part of the Monégasque. Romano reports however that the deal wouldn’t be easy to pull off with the Premier League side, but that contact has at least started between the two clubs. The 27-year-old signed for West Ham in the summer of 2023 from Dutch giants AFC Ajax for a fee valued at around €35m. Monaco meanwhile are looking for more reinforcements in the midfield areas with a busy schedule in upcoming Champions League competition, kicking off with a home clash against Premier League side Aston Villa on 21st January.
