Eric Dier’s (32) impending move to AS Monaco was made official on Wednesday. The Englishman will make the move to the Principality upon the expiry of his contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the season. Adi Hütter has revealed how he intends to use the player.
Monaco have flitted between a back three and a back four once again this season, although in recent months, there has been more consistency in shape with Hütter opting for a 4-4-2. Within this system or in a back three, Hütter says that Dier has been recruited to be a defender, rather than as a midfielder.
“I like him a lot. I have watched him for many years, when he played at Tottenham; he is a legend there. He has many caps for England, too, and what he did this season at Bayern, too was also very good. He is humble, a leader, a top defender, and can help us a lot with his personality. We are really happy to have him join us in the summer. I’ve heard lots of positive things, also in the dressing room. We have signed him as a defender. In an emergency, he can also play as a No.6,” said the Monaco manager.
