Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has been speaking about the final games of the season and has forecast some conclusions.
This news comes after Chelsea got a vital three points on Friday night against Manchester United in what was a crucial win for the race for Champions League football next season.
One Chelsea legend Gary Cahill was at the match and he has hailed one key player in the game as being one of the best in Europe after his influence on the match.
Cahill wasn’t the only one praising this player as well, with team mate Pedro Neto joining in and picking up on the character of the Chelsea hero from Friday night.
Chelsea will now move on to their final league game of the season next weekend away at Nottingham Forest, and it’s another game they have to win the secure Champions League qualification.
Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at the weekend and this means that they were also the only team in the top five race to not play.
They now play this coming Tuesday night at home to Bournemouth in what has become a must win game for them in the race for Champions League football.
Enzo Maresca and Pep Guardiola meet again
Merson said City’s recent form should concern supporters after Pep Guardiola’s men lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
‘Chelsea are fourth, if they get beat they could end up seventh,’ Merson said. ‘I’d have to go with Newcastle safe because Everton haven’t got a lot to play for.
‘My worry is Man City. They’ve failed to score in their last two games, they’ve got Bournemouth coming up and that’s a dangerous game. If they don’t get anything out of it, it’s out of their hands. All you can ask for is it to be in your hands – and right now, it’s only in Newcastle, Chelsea and Man City’s hands as we talk.’
