FC Seoul and Suwon City FC ended level at 1-1 in their K League 1 Round 15 meeting on May 24. The match took place in Seoul, with both sides displaying tactical discipline and relying on recent signings to shape the contest.
The opening half was marked by a physical midfield battle, punctuated by Choi Jun’s booking for Seoul in the 38th minute. Suwon City FC responded to Seoul’s midfield control with early substitutions, adding Anderson Oliveira and Luan Dias in the 42nd minute. Seoul found the breakthrough just before halftime, as Lucas Silva scored in the 43rd minute, thanks to Choi Jun’s assist.
After the interval, Suwon City FC levelled the score in the 55th minute. Substitute Anderson Oliveira finished off a move initiated by Jang Yun-Ho, a recent addition to the Suwon midfield. The match saw a flurry of changes, with Seoul introducing Moon Seon-Min and Cho Young-Wook in search of a winner.
Discipline became a factor as multiple players entered the referee’s book: Jesse Lingard and Hwang Do-Yoon for Seoul, while Luan Dias, Choi Chi-Ung and Roh Kyung-Ho were cautioned for Suwon City FC.
Seoul deployed a 4-4-2 shape. The starting lineup included Hyeon-mu Kang in goal, with a back four of Jun Choi, Yazan Alarab, Ju-sung Kim and Jin-su Kim. In midfield, Seung-Won Jeong, Jae-mun Ryu, Hwang Do-yoon and Lucas Silva provided support to forwards Marko Dugandžić and Jesse Lingard. Attacking options from the bench included recent arrivals such as Moon Seon-Min.
Suwon City FC used a 3-5-2, aiming for compactness in the middle, and relied on wingbacks to supply width. Jun-su Ahn started in goal, protected by a back three of Kim Tae-han, Kyu-baek Choi and Lee Hyun-Yong. The midfield five included Ju-yeob Kim, Roh Kyung-ho, Jae-won Lee, Yun-ho Jang and Jae-min Seo, with Kim Do-Yoon and Mohamed Ofkir up front. Anderson Oliveira and Luan Dias were among the impactful substitutes.
Seoul sit 7th in the table, with a record of four wins, six draws and four defeats. Recent matches have produced mixed results, and the side continues to drop points from winning positions. Suwon City FC, now 10th, have moved up one place thanks to improved form in May. Their recent 3-0 win over Daejeon Citizen signalled an uptick, but overall consistency remains an issue with three wins, five draws and six losses.
Lucas Silva was central to Seoul’s attacking play, scoring his team’s only goal. Choi Jun contributed with an assist but also picked up a yellow. Jesse Lingard, a key figure since joining, was involved but booked. For Suwon City FC, Anderson Oliveira scored off the bench, with Jang Yun-Ho assisting. Luan Dias offered energy in a substitute role and was also shown a yellow card.
Both sides featured several new signings from the 2025 transfer window, with these additions actively shaping matchday squads and on-field dynamics. Injuries to Seoul’s midfielders and attackers have prompted tactical adjustments and opportunities for recent arrivals such as Kim Jin-Su and Jeong Seung-Won to contribute.
Both teams are undergoing transitions, with squad rotations and tactical tweaks evident. For Seoul, turning possession and control into decisive results remains a challenge. Suwon City FC’s recent results in May point to greater resilience, reflected in their climb out of the bottom two, but long-term consistency is still developing. The match reflected the thin margins between the clubs’ current levels, with both taking a point and assessing what is needed for the next stage of the season.
