Newcastle have reportedly identified Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi as a serious target to bolster their ranks.

Newcastle Seeking Midfield Reinforcement

The Magpies have a formidable midfield trio in the shape of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. However, the latter is being linked with a potential return to Italy, particularly through the gates of Juventus.

Even if the Brescia youth product were to remain at St. James Park, the Premier League side could seek reinforcement, especially if they book their place in the Champions League next season.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Guendouzi is now a concrete transfer target for Newcastle. The English club has also been linked with the Frenchman’s Lazio teammate, Nicolo Rovella, but the source insists that the former Arsenal man remains the preferred option.

Newcastle Set Sights on Matteo Guendouzi

Guendouzi started his career at Paris Saint-Germain but went on to represent a host of clubs before sealing a transfer from Olympique Marseille to Lazio in the summer of 2023. This season, the 26-year-old has truly cemented himself as a pillar in Marco Baroni’s system, making 45 appearances in all competitions, while contributing with one goal and five assists.

Lazio Set Asking Price

The report believes that Lazio president Claudio Lotito would only sanction the sale of the France international for an irresistible offer worth no less than €50 million. So it remains to be seen if Newcastle will oblige.
