Newcastle United Out-on-loan Star Hailed As ‘Outstanding’ By Assistant

QPR assistant Kevin Betsy has hailed Newcastle United loanee Harrison Ashby for his attacking and defensive qualities following his performance against Sunderland on Saturday.
Ashby was on Chelsea and West Ham’s books before the Magpies paid a package worth £3m to the Hammers in 2023 to sign him.
He has played a few matches for Newcastle’s academy and is on his second loan spell away from St. James’ Park.
The full-back joined Championship side QPR last summer and now, as the league season is over, he will return to the Magpies.
On the final day of the Championship campaign, he performed well against fourth-positioned Sunderland and registered the assist in QPR’s 1-0 victory.
The R’s assistant coach, Betsy, praised Ashby for his defensive solidity and he hailed him for assisting Nicolas Madsen with the match-winning goal.
“Ashby has had some moments when he has been in the final third and assisted in previous games before”, Betsy told QPR’s in-house media (1:10) about the Magpies loanee.
“And he showed good quality to assist in the goal.”
The 47-year-old also mentioned how much he helped Jimmy Dunne deal with the quality Black Cats attack.
“And Ashby on the right side; we needed to give support to Jimmy against [Enzo] Le Fee, whether they played Le Fee or [Romain] Mundle, we were not sure before the game.
“But we know Ash’s work rate and his defensive qualities are outstanding and he did great job with Jimmy to control that area.”
All eyes will be on what comes next for Ashby heading into next season, but the Newcastle star is likely to want to make sure he is playing regularly regardless of where he is.
