Newcastle United, as measured up against all the other Premier League teams.
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning!
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now five months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 20 January 2025):
19 and 2 Liverpool
17 and 6 Newcastle United
14 and 5 Forest
13 and 7 Man City
12 and 5 Chelsea
12 and 7 Villa
11 and 5 Bournemouth
11 and 6 Brighton
11 and 12 Tottenham
10 and 6 Fulham
10 and 8 Palace
10 and 10 Man U
9 and 12 Brentford
8 and 12 West Ham
6 and 10 Everton
6 and 14 Wolves
6 and 15 Leicester
5 and 19 Southampton
4 and 13 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United remain clear, as the second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches. Despite Saturday’s setback against Bournemouth.
Liverpool have won two more domestic match this season than Eddie Howe’s side, but then four more than Arsenal, six more than Man City, seven more than Chelsea and so on. The scousers showing great consistency. As indeed have Newcastle United these past couple of months.
Credit to Forest who have won just five less than Liverpool and indeed, have picked up a win and a draw against the league leaders. Forest losing only five domestic matches all season so far, two of those five against Newcastle United.
Newcastle having won two more matches than Arsenal, three more than Forest, four more than Man City and five more than Chelsea.
Up next, a Premier League away game at rock bottom Southampton, to hopefully get on track. The Saints having lost an astonishing 19 matches already this season.
Not so long ago (for certain strange odd individuals, just on Saturday!!!), some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…
The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last seventeen United matches (all competitions) over the course of twelve weeks, have seen twelve wins, two draws and only the three defeats since October.
