Former Manchester United and Portugal star Nani has hailed new Chelsea signing Geovany Quenda as “unbelievable.”

The Blues announced a surprise deal for Quenda last month worth up to £44m, and the 17-year-old will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026.

Chelsea seemingly appeared from nowhere to land Quenda, given the expectation was the teenager would reunite with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Nani praises Quenda

One of the key factors which led to Quenda picking Chelsea over United is said to be the opportunity to play as winger rather than wingback.

Despite his age Quenda has plenty of first team experience and has made 45 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this season, scoring three goals.

The teenager has been compared with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, whilst Chelsea are said to view him as one of the best young wingers in the world.

Former United star Nani has hailed the youngster as “unbelievable” and feels there are no players like him at his age.

“There is a kid at Sporting, Quenda, who is 17 years old and he is unbelievable,” he said as quoted by A Bola.

“He has energy, he has speed, he can improve his physical ability, but he is a very intelligent player. Very mature. He knows how to play as part of a team.

“There are no players like him at 17. Why did Chelsea sign him? Because they know that. It’s difficult to have this type of player who is aggressive with the ball, taking the game forward and creating danger in the box.

“And when he sees that there is no space to take risks, he knows how to calm down and play with the team. He really is a fantastic player.”

Injury permitting Quenda could arrive at Chelsea with over 100 appearances for Sporting, including Champions League experience and he will be expected to go into the first team and compete for minutes straight away.
