Norwich City have had their fair share of talent coming through the ranks at Carrow Road of late, with a number of stars finding their feet on the banks of the River Wensum.

The likes of Jon Rowe and Abu Kamara are the latest to have flown the nest after showing promise as young talents at the football club, while the likes of Alex Matos and Bali Mumba were also on the books at a young age.

As a result, there are always plenty of eyes on the next star coming along the conveyor belt for the East Anglian outfit, with Errol Mundle-Smith a player who has got a lot of tongues wagging at such an early age.

We took the chance to talk to Football League World’s Canaries fan pundit Zeke Downes about the teenage star, who he thinks is destined to be one of the next stars to break through for the Norfolk side.

Errol Mundle-Smith impresses in Norwich City youth setup

Just like Kamara and Rowe before him, Mundle-Smith has garnered quite the reputation within Norwich’s academy system, with the past two seasons proving he has a natural instinct in front of goal.

The 18-year-old netted three times in seven outings in Premier League 2 last season for the Canaries’ youth side, with 12 goals overall between the under-18 and under-21 age groups, and a further five goals in six games so far in the current campaign.

A brace against a young Southampton side will have caught the attention of those with one eye on proceedings within the City youth setup, while another goal against Manchester United’s academy will have only added to his burgeoning reputation.

While there may be a number of stars ready to make the step-up to the big time in the years to come, Downes highlighted the young striker as the next big talent waiting in the wings at Carrow Road, having signed his first professional deal with the club earlier this year.

When asked about the situation, Downes said: “I think the next youngster to break through at the club will probably be Errol Mundle-Smith.

“I think it is often easier for attacking players to break through, because I think it is easier to look good if you are scoring lots of goals.

“He is doing well, he has not been around for very long, but he is scoring a lot of goals, and our youth team right now looks pretty strong. So he is doing well to stand out in there.”

Norwich City must learn from Abu Kamara, Alex Matos situations with Errol Mundle-Smith

It has been a common theme over recent seasons that Norwich City’s finest young talents move further afield, due to a lack of first-team football for the Canaries.

Matos experienced that first-hand in recent seasons, with the midfielder unable to make an appearance for the club before moving to Chelsea, where he has featured for the first-team as well as enjoying a loan spell at Huddersfield Town.

The Kamara [pictured] situation is also one that will still currently haunt those in Norfolk, with the talented attacker shining on loan for Portsmouth last season, before handing in a transfer request this summer.

The young star then went on to move to Championship rivals Hull City, although he has only started one game for the Tigers since his August departure from Carrow Road.

With Mundle-Smith the next star in the making, there will be plenty of hope among the Carrow Road fanbase that mistakes from the past have been learned from, with academy prospects given every opportunity to prove themselves, and their long-term future secured.
