Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni has reportedly landed on the shortlist of Nottingham Forest who are on the lookout for a new attacking player.
The Premier League boys have already secured a place in Europe next season thanks to their exceptional campaign, but it remains to be seen in which competition they will play based on the results of the final day of the season. Nevertheless, Forest’s exploits have opened the eyes of rich suitors who are looking to lure away some of their finest players.
Gibbs-White could be the first to depart, as his expected transfer to Manchester City is now at an advanced stage. The Cityzens will reportedly have to splash £70 million to sign the England international, which would leave Forest with significant funds to spend on new players.
According to SportsBoom (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the English club has identified Zaccagni as a potential replacement for Gibbs-White, although he plays in a wider role. The source claims that the 29-year-old would cost Forest circa £35 million.
Zaccagni was appointed Lazio captain last summer following the departure of Ciro Immobile and other senators, and has been one of the club’s most elemental players since his arrival in the summer of 2021.
The Italy international has a strong bond with both the fanbase and the hierarchy, but as the source notes, anything can happen during the long summer transfer window, as Lazio and Zaccagni might be tempted to part ways if they receive a financially rewarding proposal that suits all parties.
