Montpellier HSC have confirmed the arrival of Bamo Meïté (23) on loan from Olympique de Marseille until the end of the season but with an option to buy.

Montpellier had been interested for weeks in trying to secure the defender on a loan deal. They had originally wanted just a “dry” loan for the player. However, Marseille were holding out for a loan with an option to buy.

With the window shutting today, Montpellier changed tact and inserted a purchase option for a key target. This allowed for an agreement to finally be reached between the two southern clubs.

Meïté has been looking to gain some much-needed playing time as opportunities in La Provence have begun to dry up under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. While, Montpellier have been in need of defensive reinforcements and currently sit near the foot of Ligue 1, only a point above bottom-placed Le Havre AC.
