FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit has picked which player is most likely to depart the club in the summer
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Huddersfield Town are eyeing promotion straight back to the Championship at the first attempt this year.
Michael Duff’s side are in the mix for a play-off place, but their recent form could prove costly to any chance they had to secure a top-two finish.
The Terriers have not won any of their last five in the league, leaving them 10 points behind second-place Wycombe Wanderers after 29 games played.
Failure to secure a second-division spot could lead to major summer transfer departures, so there will be a lot at stake over the coming months.
When asked which player is likeliest to leave in the summer, FLW’s Huddersfield fan pundit Graeme Rayner highlighted Sorba Thomas.
He also believes Lee Nicholls or Brodie Spencer could be sold, particularly if promotion to the Championship isn’t secured.
“Probably Sorba Thomas,” Rayner told Football League World.
“He’s not actually at the club at the moment, he’s at Nantes, but there were rumours that Hull were in for him over the January window and I believe Nantes also have an option to buy as well.
“If that isn’t taken up, then I suspect other clubs will be looking at him, especially if we don’t get out of League One.
“If we get out of League One, then maybe there’s a future for him at the club at Championship level, we’ll see.
“But I suspect Sorba Thomas [will be likeliest to go].
“Other than that, Brodie Spencer.
“Arguably our biggest asset, or Lee Nicholls, our goalkeeper, who again, if we don’t get out of this division, may as well see his future at a Championship level.
“He’s definitely a Championship level goalkeeper.”
Huddersfield are currently sixth in the League One table.
It was reported by Hull Live in January that the Tigers agreed a deal to sign Thomas from Huddersfield, but the deal failed to materialise.
The 25-year-old has performed well in France with Nantes, contributing one goal and two assists from 16 Ligue 1 appearances so far.
Remaining with the top flight side could be quite tempting, but any decision will likely come down to the club themselves instead of the player.
But if Huddersfield aren’t in the Championship next year, then it’s hard to imagine Thomas remaining with the Yorkshire outfit regardless of whether Nantes trigger the option to buy clause in this loan deal.
