Patrick Dorgu appears confident about Manchester United’s prospects ahead of their crucial match against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League tonight.
In the first leg of their round of 16 clash, Man United were unlucky to be held to a 1-1 draw given their dominance throughout most of the affair.
Still, Dorgu does not appear to be prepared to allow the previous disappointing result to affect his confidence ahead of tonight’s showdown.
In conversation with MUTV, Dorgu expressed his excitement for the game while also sharing his understanding of how United can get the better of their La Liga opponents.
When asked about what he learned in the first game, Dorgu explained: “We know that they’re really good on the ball and they take their time in possession so we really need to be organised as a team and defend well.”
“Yeah, obviously we wanted to win the first game and we had the chances to do it but, yeah, after their goal the game changed a bit and yeah, I think we’re just really excited to play tomorrow,” the full-back explained.
When asked about the magnitude of the game that lies ahead, Dorgu did not sugarcoat the urgency felt by him and his teammates.
“Yeah, it’s obviously a chance to win silverware so everyone is excited and really wants to win the competition.”
He also took a moment to address his adjustment to life at Old Trafford since joining from Lecce in the January transfer window.
“It’s amazing to play at Old Trafford and we are all excited,” Dorgu said in no uncertain terms. “The fans have been really good and they’re supporting.”
Aside from the drama of receiving a straight red card during the 3-2 win over Ipswich last month, Dorgu has enjoyed a bright start to life at United.
Manager Ruben Amorim has become a staunch admirer of the 20 year old, expressing his belief that Dorgu is ready to impress in high-profile competitions such as the Premier League.
Should United managed to defend well against a composed and calculated Sociedad as Dorgu advised, while also overcoming their attacking woes, fans will be hopeful that Amorim’s team will come away with a desperately needed win to qualify for the Europa League quarterfinals.
