Barcelona midfielder Pedri has officially signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the Catalan giants.

The Spanish schemer joined Barcelona from his boyhood side Las Palmas in September 2019. Despite growing up in Tenerife - more than 1,500 miles away from Camp Nou - Pedri has been a Blaugrana fan since birth.

The midfielder's grandfather founded the Pena Barcelonista de Tenerife-Tegueste, one of the first official Barcelona supporters' clubs in the Canary Islands, and his father used to show his son footage of the legendary Danish midfielder Michael Laudrup (before his days at Real Madrid, of course).

There has been little doubt that Pedri would ever be tempted away from Catalonia and the club have now officially announced his new deal until 30 June 2030.

Pedri's announcement comes a week after Ronald Araujo confirmed that he would be staying at Barcelona until 2031 as the La Liga side tackle the extensive list of players with deals set to expire over the coming 18 months. As Fabrizio Romano outlined, the Spanish outfit are set to agree terms for Gavi (whose deal expires in 2026), Inigo Martinez (2025) and Lamine Yamal (2026).

Yamal has already confirmed that he plans to sign a new deal with Barcelona this year, however, the club are keen to limit the teenager's wages to avoid causing themselves a financial headache in the weeks to come.

Ageing forward Robert Lewandowski will also be a free agent in 2026 but isn't set to be handed a new deal. Although, the Pole has no intention of leaving the club this summer.
