Reds stay at the summit going into international break, ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal

Liverpool kicked off another Premier League weekend in successful fashion to maintain top spot going into the October international break.

Crystal Palace were their hosts in the lunchtime kick-off at Selhurst Park and they remain winless, after Diogo Jota’s early strike proved enough for another Liverpool victory for Arne Slot.

Manchester City and Arsenal then made sure that four-point Reds lead was quickly cut back down to just one, with respective home comeback wins over Fulham and Southampton.

A busy day in London saw Brentford outlast Wolves in an eight-goal thriller and a Jarrod Bowen-inspired West Ham thrash winless Ipswich in a much-needed victory for manager Julen Lopetegui. The evening game saw Newcastle draw 0-0 with Everton after Anthony Gordon saw a first-half penalty saved against his former club at Goodison Park.

Sunday will see beleaguered Manchester United travel to Aston Villa, who are fresh from beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Erik ten Hag will know that another defeat could spell the end to his time as manager at Old Trafford.

At the same time, Chelsea host Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge before the weekend concludes on the south coast as Brighton welcome in-form Tottenham.
