For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.

How many matches you are winning!

So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…

We are now over five months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 27 January 2025):

20 and 2 Liverpool

18 and 6 Newcastle United

14 and 6 Forest

14 and 7 Man City

13 and 6 Chelsea

12 and 5 Bournemouth

12 and 7 Villa

11 and 7 Brighton

11 and 10 Man U

11 and 13 Tottenham

10 and 7 Fulham

10 and 9 Palace

10 and 12 Brentford

8 and 12 West Ham

7 and 10 Everton

7 and 15 Leicester

6 and 16 Wolves

5 and 20 Southampton

4 and 14 Ipswich

As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United remain clear, as the second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches. They have now won three times (18) as many domestic matches as they have lost (6).

Liverpool have won two more domestic match this season than Eddie Howe’s side.

However, Newcastle with two more wins than Arsenal, four more than Man City, five more than Chelsea and so on.

Credit of course to Forest and Bournemouth for the season they are both having so far. However, the fact remains that United have still won four more games this season than Forest, six more than Bournemouth.

Up next, a Premier League home game against Fulham, where Newcastle can hopefully get their 19th victory of the season, what would also be their eleventh in the last twelve matches.

Not so long ago , some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…

The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last eighteen United matches (all competitions) over the course of thirteen weeks, have seen thirteen wins, two draws and only the three defeats since October.
