In a season wrought by injuries in the defensive unit, Raul Asencio has been a bright light of sorts for Los Blancos so far.

The young defender, who was not in the first-team plans when the campaign began, has taken full advantage of the club’s injury crisis to prove his worth.

He has taken advantage of injuries to key first-team stars. And despite Ancelotti’s usual reluctance to rely on academy graduates for crucial matches, Asencio’s performances have made him impossible to ignore.

PSG eye move for Asencio

Real Madrid or not, Raul Asencio’s performances have surely not gone unnoticed by Paris Saint-Germain, who are apparently weighing out a move for the defender.

This is according to SPORT, which suggests that PSG director Luis Campos has already contacted young defensive prospect to find out his desire to move to the French capital.

The report adds that PSG are ready to fork out as much as €45 million for the services of the young Spaniard.

The club are also willing to offer Asencio a sizable salary, in order to lure him to PSG. This is quite significant considering the fact that the youngster had no experience of professional football not more than four five months ago.

Real Madrid still have the upper hand

Despite PSG’s interest, it must be noted that Asencio remains under contract with Real Madrid until 2026, with a release clause of €50 million.

The club are planning to open contract negotiations this summer to reward his progress with a pay rise and secure his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Recent reports even suggest that the player is set to sign a new five-year deal with Los Blancos at the end of the season.

For Asencio, the upcoming months will be decisive. If Madrid fail to integrate him into the first team long term, PSG or another European giant could tempt him with a bigger role and a brighter financial future.
