The game is being shown live on TNT Sports 3, with an 8pm kick off.
PSV (4-2-3-1): Benitez; Ledezma, Obispo, Boscagli, Junior; Schouten, Veerman; Bakayoko, Til, Lang; De Jong
PSV could be without up to five players through suspension and injury, as they seek a point to secure qualification to the knockout phase playoffs.
Sergino Dest has been recovering from an ACL tear since last summer and, although he is nearing a return, will not be involved on Wednesday night.
Ryan Flamingo was handed a straight red card in the Eredvisie champions’ last game in the competition when they beat Red Star Belgrade. He will miss three games, including their two playoff matches, should PSV advance to the next phase.
On top of those two, Adam Nagalo, Malik Tilman and Couhaib Driouech cap off the list of absentees for Peter Bosz’s side.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s all-conquering Reds, who are unlikely to field a full-strength side, have three players sidelined.
Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez are all set to miss the squad for Liverpool’s trip to the Netherlands. The latter duo are expected to be out for a matter of weeks, with Jota likely to return before Gomez, according to Slot.
Last week, Jones was substituted with a minor issue in their 2-1 win over Lille at Anfield. Despite fighting through it in the first half, Slot made the safe call to bring his man off at half-time, with fixtures coming thick and fast.
Liverpool play seven times in 26 days next month — less than four days of respite between each game — in their bid to win an unprecedented quadruple this season.
There are only 13 instances of teams going perfect in the Champions League group stage, with just two English sides having ever completed the feat.
In 2021-22, Liverpool became the first ever English club to do so, while Manchester City earned their membership card in last season’s competition.
As expected, the Reds top the table, carrying over their dominant domestic form to Europe’s most prestigious contest. They have racked up 21 points, scoring 15 goals and conceded just twice in their seven games.
A draw on Wednesday would have no tangible effect on Liverpool’s season, aside from snatching their bragging rights away. They could become the first team to go unbeaten in an eight-game league phase in the Champions League. However, defeat to PSV would hand Barcelona the opportunity to leapfrog them in the table, as the Catalan side sit just three points behind with a superior goal difference.
For the hosts, a draw would suffice to earn them playoff qualification. But defeat could put them at risk, albeit a low one, of dropping out of the competition.
Meanwhile, victory would give them the slimmest of chances to secure automatic advancement to the last 16. In all likelihood, the Eredivisie table-toppers are in a solid position to make the playoffs.
PSV are looking to build on their last 16 finish in 2023-24. If they make the knockout phase this season, it would be the first time they have done so in back-to-back campaigns since 2006-07, when they bowed out in the quarter-final.
