Christian Pulisic has for the first time in his entire career failed to convert a penalty, because the Milan striker was denied by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s fourth save of this season.

The Rossoneri were trailing 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to a comical Malick Thiaw own goal, caused when Mike Maignan kicked a clearance straight at him for the ricochet into an empty net.

When Rafael Leao’s header was charged down by Marcus Pedersen’s outstretched arm, the referee pointed to the spot.

Pulisic had until now been a guarantee on penalties in his career, converting all 12 of his attempts for Milan and the USMNT.

He had not yet faced specialist Milinkovic-Savic, though, as the Torino goalkeeper has now made four penalty saves in Serie A this season alone.

VMS already denied Mario Pasalic and Mateo Retegui for Atalanta in two different fixtures, plus Bologna’s Santiago Castro.

The Pulisic kick is the fifth Serie A penalty saved by Milinkovic-Savic in his career, the seventh in all competition.
