Wrexham are interested in signing Cardiff City duo Ollie Tanner and Isaak Davies this summer.
According to the Wrexham Insider, the pair are on the shortlist of the North Wales side as they prepare for life in the Championship.
Both players were part of the Bluebirds team which suffered relegation to League One last season, but could have the opportunity to remain in the second tier with a switch to Phil Parkinson’s side.
Tanner made 29 appearances in the 2024/25 Championship campaign for Cardiff, recording two goals and two assists apiece. Davies, meanwhile, returned two strikes from his nine matches, having been plagued by injuries in two of his last three seasons inbetween a successful 12-goal haul while on loan with Belgian side Kortrijk in 23/24.
However, it remains to be seen whether Wrexham can convince Cardiff to cash in on the two players, or if they’d want to make the switch this summer.
When asked about the potential signings of Davies and Tanner, FLW’s Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice suggested that Tanner might not be the best fit in Parkinson’s squad.
However, he believes Davies could be a solid addition to their forward options, especially if there are departures in the team.
“They are both good players in their own right,” Grice told Football League World.
“Ollie Tanner I’m not too sure about because, although he can play through the middle, he’s traditionally more of a winger and Wrexham play with wing-backs but there are a few question marks surrounding his defensive ability, and how he’d be able to impact the game in that area.
“So, I maybe wouldn’t be looking for a move for Tanner.
“Isaak Davies is a striker with a lot of potential, certainly offers something different to the strikers we’ve got at this current time. And given the right team around him, he could score quite a few goals.
“Our main problem last season was we didn’t have an out-and-out goal scorer in the team.
“[Sam] Smith was good when he came in, but he didn’t really get much of a chance to get double digits only coming in late January.
“I think Isaak Davies could really bolster that attacking line, which I think will have a few departures this summer, and certainly provides some depth if not, provides competition for the starting places.
“I’d go for Isaak Davies but maybe not Ollie Tanner.”
Wrexham earned a third promotion in a row by coming second in League One, five points clear of third place Stockport County.
Wrexham’s rise has garnered quite a lot of attention, but they will need to recruit this summer to keep that momentum going.
Players like Tanner and Davies would add some much-needed Championship experience, and could be available at a reasonable cost due to Cardiff’s relegation.
It remains to be seen what kind of spending power the Red Dragons will now have after reaching the second division, but they will need to be shrewd in the market to compete at this level long-term.
Signing a consistent goal scorer will be key, but it’s not clear yet whether Davies could be that man.
