Claudio Ranieri addressed the media on Friday afternoon to discuss the upcoming Serie A fixture with Venezia.
In his press conference, Ranieri spoke at length about Roma’s transfer business.
“I’m very happy with our transfer market,” he said. “We couldn’t have done more because of Financial Fair Play restrictions.”
“The English say one thing about us Romans: “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he added. “Give the owners time to do what they have in mind. I sincerely hope so as a Roma fan.”
“Right now I can’t ask for Kolo Muani, even though Dan Friedkin and I both wanted him,” he continued.
“Our deficit cannot go beyond a certain limit. The Friedkins have done their best, that’s why I said I’m happy with the market. More could not be done. Again, give this ownership time to do what they have in mind.”
“The Friedkins never spoke to me about revolution. To spend 100 million on a player we first have to lower the wage bill. We can’t go beyond that amount of expenses.”
“That’s why we couldn’t operate on the Italian market. We just didn’t have the capabilities to negotiate the fees being asked in Serie A.”
“I was happy with the players were brought in, and I approved each one of them,” he added. “They gave me the names of possible purchases and I gave the OK based on our needs and how much we can spend.”
“We are sailing in a storm, but we are alive thanks to the Friedkins.”
“At San Siro nothing was lacking on a mental level. There were difficulties in finding Dybala or the strikers right away. Then we found ourselves again and we did well. But the team never gave up. Some did not perform as well as they usually do but they all gave 100%.”
“Hummels and Paredes will not be called up. I gave them vacation days even though I know what the internet will say about me. They are more useful when well rested than to have them come and stay on the bench.”
“Against Venezia it will be difficult. The pitch is a difficult one. I wasn’t worried about Napoli, Eintracht or Milan, but I am worried for Sunday.”
“I want to see us play with personality against a challenging opponent,” he added.
“Right now I am not happy with the way this team is being talked about. First we get criticized and then we’re loved. That’s not fair, the boys are giving their all.”
“Paredes? I know they’re discussing a new contract for him. I was certain he would stay.”
“The new signings? You will see some of them against Venezia.”
