Pablo Torre and Arda Guler are just some of the players Barcelona and Real Madrid have clashed for in the transfer market in recent times.
Heading into the summer transfer window next year, they already share common interests in Alphonso Davies, Jonathan Tah and Joshua Kimmich and their rivalry in the market is set to spark again.
As revealed by MARCA, there is a new young prospect who is on the radars of both teams and can thus spice up the battle between the two arch-rivals in – Antonio Cordero.
Cordero, Malaga’s 18-year-old striker and Spanish Under-19 international, is seen as one of Spain’s most talented young strikers and is touted to have a high ceiling.
Barcelona and Real Madrid, in fact, both approached the player’s entourage last summer but Malaga refused to sell the star claiming he was an important part of their project.
Since then, however, they have come to realise that the player is not willing to accept a contract renewal and that he will, in fact, leave as a free agent in June if no urgent measures are taken.
The door for Cordero’s departure in January is thus open and it will be interesting to see if the two European giants look to capitalise on the opportunity to strengthen their subsidiary teams.
Real Madrid had seemingly closed the door for his signing after Malaga refused to sell him last summer. However, the player’s quality has forced the door back open as he has already scored three goals and provided three assists in 12 games.
Given Los Blancos’ attraction to players towards the end of their contract, they will likely look to pounce on Cordero’s signature. Needless to say, he will be signed for the Castilla at present to avoid a direct clash with Endrick.
