Real Madrid’s defensive problems appear to have no end in sight.

Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao are the manager’s only two fit options at centre-back. While Jesus Vallejo is not trusted by the manager, there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel in David Alaba’s case.

The Austrian defender suffered an ACL injury close to a year ago but still appears far from the finish line in terms of his recovery.

Reports yesterday revealed the massive challenges that lie between him and a return to the field.

It was claimed that the educed cartilage in the affected joint and the slow regeneration which is causing increased friction between the bones and thus slower recovery.

The various complications Alaba is facing during his recovery prompted reports of a possible early retirement from the media in recent days.

Ever-reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, however, has come out to relay that there is absolutely no truth to the news of Alaba being forced into an early retirement, calling the reports ‘nonsense’.

His recovery is still going according to the plan for Real Madrid, and while there has indeed been a slight delay, there is optimism that the player will come good soon. Doctors and fitness coaches are satisfied with his healing process.

The journalist also adds that the player himself is in high spirits and feeling good over his situation, thus doing away with any news of him calling it time.

As it stands, it remains to be seen if Los Blancos look for a new signing in the winter transfer market or prefer to wait for Alaba to find his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

In either case, the Austrian will not be rushed under any circumstance.

For now, there is no truth to the reports that Alaba might be forced into early retirement and his recovery continues to go as per plans.
