After a season that has failed to deliver on expectations, Real Madrid are entering a busy summer. The final weeks of the campaign are intense, with faint hopes still alive in La Liga and full focus on the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
This urgency is reflected in the transfer market activity, as the tournament in the USA is financially significant for the club, and they aim to arrive with the strongest squad possible.
As such, the arrival of new manager Xabi Alonso has been fast-tracked while work is being done to rope in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen in time for the tournament.
Moreover, Real Madrid also intend to sign Alvaro Carreras to bolster the left-back position before flying to the US for the Club World Cup.
In fact, according to journalist Rodra P, barring any last-minute changes, Real Madrid expect to sign Carreras from Benfica in the coming days.
The 22-year-old left-back has been identified as the priority target for that position, with the club aiming to finalise his transfer before the end of May.

The youngster, for his part, is determined to sign for Real Madrid, having left the club’s academy for Manchester United back in 2020.
Sources at Real Madrid say that Alonso is playing a significant role in shaping the squad for next season, and Carreras fits well with the incoming manager’s preferences. He contributes in both attack and defence and aligns with the club’s vision.
The report further indicates that negotiations between Real Madrid and Benfica are now focused on reducing the cost of the transfer.
Carreras’ release clause at the Portuguese club stands at €50 million – something that Los Blancos are unwilling to meet. As such, they are working to bring that figure down.
Benfica, for their part, have already started looking for replacements for the 22-year-old Spaniard, indicating that a transfer might not be far away.
As such, if nothing changes, Carreras could return to Valdebebas five years after having left the club for England.
