Real Madrid and Manchester City have both been tipped to try lure Sandro Tonali away from Newcastle United this summer.
Tonali has been central to Newcastle's success since returning from his gambling suspension, but the Magpies' failure to hold down a regular spot in the Champions League has long sparked speculation of a move away from St James' Park.
Juventus and AC Milan were strongly linked with Tonali and there were even claims that the Italy international wanted to return to Serie A after growing unhappy with life at Newcastle, only for those rumours to be firmly laughed off by Tonali's agent.
Nevertheless, Tonali's impressive form will continue to attract interest from elsewhere and Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now tipped Madrid and City to try and strike a deal in the summer.
"I don't know if he could return to Italy in June, but I think Tonali will leave Newcastle," Di Marzio told Sky Sport Italia. "I think there could be an important market for him at an international level.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Real Madrid buy him, but that will depend on whether Carlo [Ancelotti] stays or Xabi Alonso arrives. Also City are watching. Sandro is a player who, beyond a possible return to Italy – because he could be happy to return – could have an international outlet on the market."
Tonali is under contract with Newcastle until 2028 and has repeatedly stressed his delight at being part of the furniture at St James', with his agent telling Fabrizio Romano that Tonali enjoys being an "idol" for a team in the "best league in the world".
Newcastle are also well in the race for a place in the Premier League's top four this season. They currently sit fifth, outside the Champions League qualifying spots on goal difference only.
