At 39 years old, Real Madrid veteran and club captain Luka Modric continues to defy expectations.

While he is no longer a permanent fixture in the team, the Croatian midfielder has shown that he is still of great value to the team – especially in 2025 – adding goals to his game.

Indeed, Modric’s strike in the win vs Leganes last night was his third in his last nine appearances – as many as he had scored in the previous 107.

Modric wants to continue

Now, AS reports that Modric, whose current contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season, wants to renew and continue at the club for one more season.

No conversations have yet taken place between Modric and the club, as all parties are in agreement to wait until the end of the season to discuss it calmly, without pressure.

But as of now, the player’s desire is to stay for another year. He wants to play in the 2026 World Cup for Croatia, and, until then, stay at Real Madrid – that is his dream.

Modric is happy at Real Madrid, despite the obvious reduction in his minutes on the pitch. He is comfortable in the role of captain, leader, and player willing to give 200% regardless of the playing time he receives.

From this position, he continues to work to prove that he can be a starting player in the crucial upcoming matches of the season.

Modric was arguably the best player on the pitch for Real Madrid last night against Leganes. He finished as the player who created the most chances (4), completed the most passes (80), and delivered the most crosses (6) while also making four recoveries.

Leading by example, he also took the opportunity to give Vinicius Jr. a reprimand over the Brazilian’s lack of defensive support during the game.

Already the oldest and the most decorated footballer to play for Real Madrid, Modric is showing he still has plenty left to offer and a renewal might very well on the cards.
