Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. saw a red card during the team’s previous La Liga match against Valencia.

The Brazilian winger was involved in an ugly altercation with Los Che goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski for which he was shown a direct red by the referee, although the Valencia star got away with only a yellow.

Vinicius’ outburst after the sending-off led to fears that he could be hit with a lengthy ban, but it turned out that the Real Madrid ace was only given a two-match suspension which even meant that he was eligible to play in the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.

Real Madrid’s appeal shot down

At the same time, Real Madrid had lodged an appeal to get Vinicius’ two-match ban overturned as the club strongly felt the red card was unwarranted.

However, now, according to Isaac Fuoto of COPE, the Merengues’ appeal against their star forward’s two-match suspension has been rejected by the Competitions Committee.

As such, the 24-year-old Brazilian international will now miss Real Madrid’s next two La Liga matches against Las Palmas (January 19) and Real Valladolid (January 25).

Vinicius will, however, be available at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal for this week’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 encounter against Celta Vigo.

The suspension will also have no impact on the UEFA Champions League encounter against RB Salzburg, which will be played between the two league matches versus Las Palmas and Valladolid.

So far this season, Vinicius has featured 24 times in all competitions for Real Madrid, scoring ten goals and setting up 13 more.
