Crawley Town have confirmed the signing of former Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules on a one-year contract, with the player signing as a free agent after his release by his former club this summer.

John-Jules was on Arsenal’s list of released players in early June, but the player didn’t immediately find a new club.

He’ll be pleased to have now secured a contract with League One side Crawley, albeit a relatively short-term deal.

Striker John-Jules was highly rated in the Arsenal academy, playing with some talented youth teammates. He played more games for the Arsenal u18s and u21s alongside Bukayo Saka and Folarin Balogun than any other player.

John-Jules committed his future to Arsenal around the same time Saka did, but he went out on loan for experience.

Unfortunately, injury struck time and time again during his six loan spells, limiting him to just under 3,500 minutes of league action.

That’s the equivalent of 39 full matches in four-and-a-half years, playing in leagues with 46-game seasons. In other words, he was playing less than a quarter as much as he ideally would have.

That likely contributed to the player’s long wait for a new club, as he’d have to get fit and find a club willing to take a chance on his talent despite his injury record.

Crawley have now done so, and hopefully he can finally put the injuries behind him to make a fresh start post-Arsenal.
