Eric Garcia’s future at Barcelona has been a topic of intense speculation recently, but manager Hansi Flick has addressed the rumours, making it clear that there are no immediate plans to let the player go.
Interestingly, while Barcelona were open to a transfer, several factors have influenced the final decision.
According to SPORT, Barcelona’s return to the1:1 financial rule has had a positive impact on the team’s outlook, though it also means that the squad is currently dealing with some absences.
Pau Victor and Dani Olmo are both in limbo, with their situations yet to be resolved. This shift in squad dynamics could affect Flick’s stance on Garcia’s future, especially since Girona are interested in acquiring the defender during the upcoming winter transfer window.
In a recent conversation with Garcia, Flick acknowledged the challenges the player faces in securing regular playing time, especially with the return of key defenders, alongside the growing experience of midfielders.
While Flick made it clear that this was not an attempt to push Garcia out, he did suggest that if the player wanted more minutes, a move might be the best option. Flick assured Garcia that he would respect his decision if he chose to leave.

For what it is worth, Barcelona have only considered a permanent transfer for Garcia and not a loan deal.
However, this transfer would need to meet certain financial criteria, including providing a significant amount that could be reinvested into the squad.
The club is reluctant to let Garcia go unless the deal strengthens their position in terms of squad depth and financial flexibility, as they can only use part of any transfer fee due to the limitations of the financial fair play regulations.
However, the situation is fluid. The club’s ability to reintegrate Olmo or Victor into the squad will influence Garcia’s role.
If Olmo’s absence continues, it could open up more opportunities for Garcia. This could lead to Garcia being given more time as a defensive midfielder.
Flick is determined not to weaken his squad further, especially given the club’s ongoing involvement in multiple competitions.
However, if Garcia does leave and the club is able to secure funds for reinforcements, Flick would be open to the idea of bringing in a replacement who could offer more physicality and presence in the midfield.
