Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi will not be at Simone Inzaghi’s disposal for tomorrow night’s encounter against Young Boys.

According to Inter.it, the 36-year-old’s test results revealed a strain in the biceps femoris of his left thigh, rendering him unavailable for selection.

The former Lazio center-back underwent an MRI scan at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Rozzano earlier today.

Ominously for Inzaghi, Inter will be without Francesco Acerbi for the upcoming Derby d’Italia against Juventus at the weekend.

Per Sky Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the veteran star should return to action for the match against Empoli on October 30.

However, there’s a chance he could skip that fixture.

If that’s the case, Inzaghi may have to wait until Venezia’s visit to Giuseppe Meazza on November 3 for Acerbi’s return.

The absence of the Italian rearguard is a massive blow for Inter.

Acerbi won’t travel to Bern with the rest of the Inter squad.

Inzaghi’s lads take on Young Boys in a must-win UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday.

But they’ll need to make do without their defensive stalwart.

With Acerbi out, Stefan de Vrij will likely return to the starting XI. He surrendered his place to the Italian veteran against Roma on Sunday.

Lautaro Martinez’s second-half winner propelled Inter to a pivotal triumph at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, losing Acerbi to an injury was a hefty price the Nerazzurri had to pay to walk away from Rome unscathed.

As a result, they’ll be without their aging star for a mouth-watering showdown against Juventus on Sunday.

The only team in Serie A yet to lose, Thiago Motta’s men will take on their fiercest rivals in their backyard.

Meazza will form the backdrop for one of the most highly anticipated fixtures in the European football calendar.

But Acerbi will have to watch it from the stands.
