Benfica’s Orkun Kokcu recently reignited transfer speculation by praising Liverpool manager Arne Slot in an interview with TRT Spor. The Turkish midfielder, who worked closely with Slot at Feyenoord, described the Dutch tactician as the “best coach in the world.” Such admiration has only fueled rumours of a potential reunion at Anfield.

Kokcu credited Slot for transforming his career, stating: “Arne Slot is like my father, he made me who I am. Tactically, in terms of communication…he is the best.”
The midfielder, now valued at €80 million, captained Feyenoord under Slot’s guidance. Their partnership peaked during the 2022 season, leading Feyenoord to a UEFA Conference League final, albeit in defeat. Slot’s faith in Kokcu as captain brought out the best in him, with the player adding: “The responsibility increased my performance even more.”
Slot’s managerial tenure at Liverpool has already turned heads. Since taking over in 2024, the Dutchman has prioritised rebuilding the midfield. Kokcu’s name, alongside other prospects like Martin Zubimendi and Rayan Cherki, consistently appears on Liverpool’s radar. While Benfica’s asking price poses a challenge, the player’s skill set fits Slot’s high-tempo tactical philosophy.
Liverpool’s interest isn’t limited to Kokcu. Reports suggest a broad recruitment strategy, targeting Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki. Amid uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future, adding creative talent to the squad is becoming increasingly vital.

The €80 million price tag raises questions about Liverpool’s willingness to invest heavily in a single player. Slot’s success at Feyenoord shows his ability to extract maximum potential from players who aren’t marquee signings. Yet, Kokcu’s dynamic midfield presence and understanding of Slot’s methods could justify the expense.
With Slot’s reputation and Liverpool’s ambition, the links between Kokcu and Anfield seem more than just speculative. Whether the Reds can navigate the financial hurdles remains to be seen, but Slot’s influence continues to shape Liverpool’s pursuit of talent.
It’s a testament to Slot’s transformative impact—not just on players like Kokcu but on Liverpool’s entire trajectory since his appointment. Slot has brought a sense of tactical clarity and intensity reminiscent of Liverpool’s peak under Klopp.
Kokcu’s admiration for Slot feels like a sign. Imagine a midfield trio with Kokcu pulling the strings, Trent Alexander-Arnold as the inverted playmaker, and Alexis Mac Allister offering dynamism. Kokcu already understands Slot’s high-pressing system, which could make him an instant fit. Yes, €80 million is steep, but Liverpool’s history with big-money signings—think Virgil van Dijk—shows it can be worth it.
Fans might also feel reassured by the club’s broader transfer links. Names like Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki point to a proactive recruitment strategy. Yet, Kokcu’s connection to Slot makes this one feel special. If Liverpool can pull it off, it could be the signing to define the Slot era.
Whether this reunion happens or not, one thing is clear: Slot’s vision for Liverpool is bold, exciting, and exactly what the Kop needs.
