Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could still renew his contract at the Etihad Stadium, despite being linked with the vacant England role.

Since Gareth Southgate's sudden departure in summer, England have been yet to name a permanent successor, with Under-21s boss Lee Carsley stepping up as an interim for UEFA Nations League clashes. Carsley has enjoyed a mostly successful start on the senior stage, recording wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland, as well as a disappointing loss to Greece.

However it's Guardiola who remains heavily linked when it comes to filling the full-time role.

The Football Association's hunt for a new manager has led them to make reported contact with the famed Catalan coach, but his future could also still remain in the Premier League.

According to the Telegraph, Guardiola could sign a one-year contract extension at City in a renewal that would see him continue his tenure beyond the end of the season. As it stands, the boss is expected to end his eight-year spell in Manchester in June, chasing a seventh Premier League title.

It's expected that Guardiola, who stated recently on Italian television that "anything" can still happen, will make a final decision on his future with City in the coming weeks, whilst England will hope to appoint a full-time manager after the November international break.

Carsley is expected to lead the Three Lions through one more camp, in November, after which he hopes to return to his previous developmental role leading the Under-21 squad.

Guardiola has already been in charge at Manchester City twice as long as he was in the Barcelona hotseat, taking up his role as head coach at Camp Nou in 2008 but suffering burnout by 2012. He returned to football in 2013 with Bayern Munich but was on the move again three years later.
