Reports in Italy claim that Roma have identified former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri as their ideal candidate to replace Claudio Ranieri in the dugout this summer, and Thursday’s updates claim that there has been contact between the parties over the last few days.

Roma are actively seeking a new head coach before the start of the 2025-26 campaign. Ranieri came out of retirement earlier in the season to take over on an interim basis until the end of the current campaign, at which point he will transition into a directorship role.

There have already been a series of names linked with a move to the Stadio Olimpico, but one coach who will not be taking over is Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini. Gasp said himself that he could leave Bergamo at the end of the season, but Ranieri has outright denied that he will be the next Giallorossi head coach.

Thursday’s reports from Calciomercato.com claim that Roma have been in contact with Allegri’s representatives over the last few days.

The former Juventus head coach has been described as Roma’s ‘dream’ candidate to take over, but the club are aware that there is also interest from Milan and soon-to-be sporting director Fabio Paratici.

Former Rossoneri coach Stefano Pioli is another option for Roma ahead of the 2025-26 season. He is currently in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr, but reportedly has a break clause in his contract that means he could theoretically leave at the end of the current campaign.
