Bayern Munich made a significant investment in February by agreeing on a new bumper contract with Jamal Musiala. The young German forward became one of the best-paid players in Europe after signing a new deal with Bayern.
Along with offering him a pay hike, Bayern also agreed to the player’s wish to have release clauses in his contract. At different stages of his new deal, Musiala will have varying release clauses, with €175 million reportedly being the highest value.
Die Roten have never approved of release clauses since it takes away power from them regarding the long-term future of the player. Musiala is an exception since he is one of the best talents in Europe, and his release clause is significantly high, which gives Die Roten enough protection about his future.
It does look like Musiala is not the only player to have release clauses in the contract at Bayern. According to SportBild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl (via iMiaSanMia), Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano also have release clauses in their contracts.
The release contract in the South Korean defender’s contract is worth €110 million, while the interested club will have to pay €120 million to activate the exit clause in Dayot Upamecano’s deal.
Rekordmeister will include a release clause in the new contract of Upamecano. The French defender’s contract expires in 2026, but both parties are discussing terms for a new deal. It wouldn’t be a surprise if an agreement is reached by the end of the season.
The Bavarian club had set the tone for release clauses in future contracts once they allowed Harry Kane to have it in his deal when he arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. Kane does have different release clauses in his contract, while Spurs reportedly have the first option if Bayern decide to part ways with the English clubs.
If the release clauses are hefty, Bayern will not face any issues moving forward. They will have the upper hand in negotiations since clubs will not activate nine-figure release clauses of every Bayern player.
Bayern have done well in terms of agreeing new deals for Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala. Both players are far from their peak, which made these contract renewals so crucial. The Bavarian club remains in talks with Joshua Kimmich over a new deal, while Leroy Sane is waiting to hear from the club chiefs regarding a new deal.
