Serie A giants Inter Milan had reportedly considered a winter swoop for Paris Saint-Germain outcast Marco Asensio.
According to Sport Mediaset via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri discarded this possibility after careful thought.
Meanwhile, PSG offloaded the former Real Madrid forward to Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique, Asensio wanted to leave the Parc des Princes.
Inter could’ve offered him an escape route.
However, after failing to cut ties with Marko Arnautovic, Beppe Marotta pulled the plug on this idea.
In addition to Arnautovic, Inter couldn’t remove Joaquin Correa.
Both players will leave the San Siro as free agents at the end of the season.

However, their ongoing contracts tied Marotta’s hands during the January transfer window.
Asensio could’ve been a decent attacking reinforcement, though.
With Simone Inzaghi over-relying on Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, the Spaniard would’ve been a valuable coup.
Yet, Inter’s conservative approach forced him to accept Villa’s approach.
Indeed, he joined Unai Emery’s side along with Marcus Rashford and Donyell Malen.
