West Ham United picked up back-to-back wins for the first time this season after defeating Leicester City 2-0 on Thursday night at the London Stadium.
Tomas Soucek scored the opening goal for the Hammers in the first half, which was his sixth in the league this season.
Before the end of the first half, when Jarrod Bowen’s effort from a tight angle was deflected in off Leicester defender Jannik Vestergaard, the fate of the match was more or less sealed.
Soucek, 30, has been one of the most consistent players for the Hammers this season, and he keeps on getting important goals.
The Times have given him a 7/10 rating for his brilliant performance against the Foxes.
Former Leicester midfielder Robbie Savage praised Soucek on TNT Sports. The midfielder received a standing ovation from the home fans.
Savage said: “It’s been a good performance from Tomas Soucek. A goal on his birthday, standing ovation from the West Ham fans.”
Soucek also became only the 2nd player in Premier League history to score on his birthday on two occasions. But more than anything else, he would be very happy to have contributed heavily to his side’s victory.
West Ham won 1-0 against Arsenal in the previous game, and they have now picked up another important win.
While the Hammers have only picked up three wins from their last eight games, there is a feeling that positive momentum is building under Potter.
Potter said about Soucek’s goal: “He’s done brilliant for us. Pops up with a goal, works hard. He can have some time over the weekend with his family and maybe have a nice dinner.”
It has been a very disappointing season for West Ham, but Potter can build something exciting with a strong finish in the final few games.
