Ruben Amorim says the pressure to win is a different one and that his Manchester United team need to deal with that pressure when approaching the next game .

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Southampton at Old Trafford, the head coach was asked if he was concerned about the game due to United’s lack of consistency. He replied:

“Yeah, I’m always concerned because we didn’t have, during these games, the consistency in performances, in results, so always worried. It’s my job to be worried but we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal, for example, that is the goal. Not more, not less, face that game.”

“When you have the pressure to win that is the pressure we want. Sometimes it’s hard. Against Arsenal and Liverpool, nobody was expecting us to beat those teams but now we have top be prepared for that pressure, we need that pressure as a team and face the game the right way.”

Amorim also said “This next game will teach me more about my players than the last two. There is no expectation in the last two games. Against Arsenal we waited for the opportunity. In the future we can’t play like that and I know that. Fans will expect more tomorrow. We have to deliver.”

Pressed on why it is different, he said:

“It’s different because the most difficult thing to train in one team is the way you build with the ball and in the final third the way we play, you create a situation, that is what a big team should do very well.

“We have, for a long time, a lack of goals and because we don’t spend a lot of time with the last third, we did against Nottingham [Forest] but we need to improve in that part of the game.”

The boss then quickly shut down a question about whether Marcus Rashford will be in tomorrow’s squad, saying “I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win tomorrow, I will choose the players that I think are best to win the game tomorrow. I am just focused on that.”

Asked about the pressure to win, he said:

“Of course, I feel the pressure of the club but in this moment I don’t feel that pressure because in the last years we didn’t win the league.

“If you follow this club in the past, if you don’t win the league one year you must win it the next year. We need to bring that pressure to us, I don’t feel that pressure to win and feel that pressure in the future, we need to win titles and games in this moment.”

Asked if Toby Collyer has given him a selection dilemma after his performance against Arsenal, he replied:

“A lot of players I had to think this week, Toby [Collyer] is training really well, he has a lot of pace, he likes to learn so he’s one more option for tomorrow.”
