Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided an injury update ahead of the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday night.
The Red Devils have been in dismal form in the Premier League, but they will go into the FA Cup tie as favourites, considering the Foxes’ league woes under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
In his pre-match presser, Amorim revealed that Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for a while after picking up an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury against Crystal Palace last weekend.
The manager added that Luke Shaw picked up a minor injury in training. The Englishman has suffered a fresh issue. The club are expected to handle him with extra caution.
He said: “Licha is a difficult situation, he’s going to be out for a while, we don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s going to take time. Luke has one small issue in the different area from the last injury, so we try to be careful with Luke.”
United have had a stop-start campaign in the Premier League. They are yet to win back-to-back games. Despite this, they should go into the Cup tie tomorrow with plenty of optimism.
There will be an enforced change in the backline with Martinez’s setback. In the Argentine’s absence, Leny Yoro could be a front-runner to start on the left side of central defence.
However, there are several other options at the manager’s disposal. Noussair Mazraoui, Jonny Evans or winter signing Ayden Heaven could also be considered to start in the role.
Shaw would be a natural replacement for Martinez, having played as a centre-back in the past, but the £27 million signing is unlikely to be fit to make the squad against Leicester.
It has been reported that the 29-year-old is poised to return to training on Monday. He could be involved in the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on 16th February.
