In an official communiqué, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation have denied reports of a lucrative offer for Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luís Campos.
According to Le Parisien, the Portuguese sporting director received a bumper 10-year deal from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, worth €200m. His job with the Federation, should he accept, would be to develop the national team, with a clearly stated objective for Saudi Arabia to reach the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup, which they will host in 2034. That offer, according to Le Parisien, was communicated during a meeting in Geneva last week. The report goes on to state that Campos is yet to accept the offer and he has until the end of the calendar year to do so.
Those reports come amid uncertainty surrounding Campos’ future at PSG. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, there are talks regarding a renewal, however, an agreement is yet to be reached.
The Saudi Arabian Federation have now responded to the report from Le Parisien. “In response to the recent media speculation regarding negotiations with Luis Campos, currently the technical advisor at Paris Saint-Germain, with a view to his appointment at the head of the Federation, the Saudi Federation states that this information is completely unfounded,” read the statement, via L’Équipe.
“The Federation underlines the importance of relying on official sources and establishing direct contact with the institution’s communication service in order to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of information,” added the statement.
