Former Chelsea player Scott Minto has torn into the club’s squad following their win against Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Blues returned to winning ways as they picked up a much needed three points with a 4-0 win against the Saints.

Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella scored as Chelsea moved back into the top four, although they could drop out depending on how Newcastle and Manchester City fare in their fixtures on Wednesday.

Chelsea’s win stopped a run of two wins in the last ten league games, and there was a protest against the club’s ownership before kick-off.

Supporters voiced their dissatisfaction at how the club is being run, and the current recruitment model, with there still so many holes in the squad despite the vast investment.

The Blues still need a striker, centre back, goalkeeper, left winger and possibly another midfielder, and Fabrizio Romano has reported Enzo Maresca is involved in planning for the summer window.

There’s plenty of talent in the current squad, but it lacks experience and leadership, and Minto didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts.

“It’s not a squad to win titles, it’s a squad for accountants,” he told talkSPORT.

“They’re kind of spreadsheet players.”

Many fans will likely agree with Minto’s assessment of the squad, and if the Blues are serious about getting back to competing for major trophies they need to make quality additions in the summer.

Chelsea are said to be leading the race for Liam Delap, whilst they also hold interest in Benjamin Sesko, but face competition from Arsenal for the 21-year-old.

The Blues are also said to be keen on bringing Marc Guehi back to the club, and the England international will have a year left on his deal come the summer.

However, it’s essential Chelsea get Champions League football otherwise they may struggle to attract the calibre of player they need to improve the first team.
