The game ended 3–2 in favour of Brighton at the Amex, with Liverpool surrendering a 2–1 lead in the second half. Once again, the loss is practically meaningless in the grand scheme of the season — but it’s still worth reviewing the performances and extracting key learning points.

Though Liverpool’s season is effectively over, Mohamed Salah’s form remains a concern. The Egyptian forward has struggled to find rhythm for months now, and his subdued performances continue to raise questions heading into the summer. At left-back, another underwhelming outing from Kostas Tsimikas may underline why Liverpool are pursuing Milos Kerkez. On the opposite flank, however, Conor Bradley was a rare bright spot — and if he keeps this level, he’ll give summer target Jeremie Frimpong real competition. One theme that refuses to go away is the instability at centre-back. Ibrahima Konaté once again looked uncertain, doing little to strengthen his case for a new contract. It might be harsh to judge too strictly with nothing on the line, but these habits don’t inspire confidence. Though it wasn’t his most effective outing, many Liverpool fans were simply glad to see Federico Chiesa earn a start. His presence alone brought excitement, even if the end product wasn’t quite there. The bigger talking point, however, lies in the speculation around Florian Wirtz. Should Liverpool complete a move for the German star, Dominik Szoboszlai’s place in the squad isn’t necessarily at risk. The Hungarian has already proven he can operate effectively as both a number 8 and a number 10 — versatility that will be invaluable in Arne Slot’s system. It’s worth remembering that under Klopp last season, Szoboszlai was regularly deployed as a number 8 and adapted well.
Moving away from the match for a moment, many Liverpool fans will feel encouraged by the club’s proactive approach to summer business, even as early as May. With the signing of Jeremie Frimpong virtually complete and negotiations ongoing for Milos Kerkez, Liverpool appear to be laying the groundwork for a serious push across all competitions next season. All supporters can hope is that this current dip in form proves meaningless in the long run — a temporary lull before the next charge begins.
