Former Roma midfielder Sergio Oliveira spoke to Il Romanista about the magical night in Tirana in 2022 when Roma lifted the Conference League title over Feyenoord.
“It was a short but intense period that left a deep mark. Rome is like an open-air museum and people have always treated me with kindness, respect and warmth. My family and I will always be grateful to the city,” said Oliveira who only spent six months on loan from Porto at Roma.
“My fondest memory? Obviously the Conference final won in Tirana with Feyenoord, which today turns three years old. We knew it was a unique opportunity.”
“Winning the first European trophy in the club’s history in the first edition of the competition was truly special. Lifting the cup in Tirana was a magical and unforgettable moment. The celebrations in Rome were also incredible, a moment to remember forever.”
“Mourinho? I prefer not to comment on any details about the coach, I just want to thank him for the opportunity to work with him and play for a great club like this. It was a privilege.”
“Mourinho doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone, he has earned the right to choose his own path. But yes, I think the story between him and Roma could have ended differently. But football is like that, it doesn’t always follow the script we imagined.”
“A message to the fans? I would like to say that the fans are still in my heart. I am incredibly proud to have been part of the history of a giant club like Roma. I am rooting for the club to return to its rightful place, the Champions League, and I hope that the coming years will be full of success. I also want to send a hug to all the staff and all my former teammates who are still at the club. Thank you Roma, I will always be a Romanista.”
