Lega Serie A President Ezio Simonelli says that there will be no winter break in the 2025-26 season and that it is likely football will be played on Easter Sunday again in what he expected to be a ‘clogged’ fixture list.

Simonelli has confirmed that Serie A action will take place on the weekends either side of Christmas in December 2025, and that there will also be a full round of fixtures in the first weekend of January as well.

He claims that the number of ‘international commitments’ are the main reasons behind Serie A’s inability to take a winter break next season.

“We will play the weekend before Christmas (December 21-22), and the one after (December 27-28). The first weekend of 2026 will be January 3-4, so there will be no stops,” Simonelli said in an interview on Radio1 Rai, reported via Tuttosport.

“The calendar is super clogged. We have a number of international commitments, so today it’s no longer possible to take Christmas breaks. We will also probably play on Easter Sunday.”

As things stand, the 2025-26 Serie A season is due to kick off on the weekend of August 23-24.
