Serie A | Napoli 2-0 Cagliari: McTominay magic seals Scudetto triumph | OneFootball

Napoli have won the Scudetto for the second time in three years, seeing off Cagliari 2-0 with Romelu Lukaku and a spectacular Scott McTominay volley to keep Inter at bay.

There was only a one-point advantage over Inter going into this final round, so the fate of the title was still in their hands. Antonio Conte sat out a touchline ban in the stands, with Stanislav Lobotka, Alessandro Buongiorno, Juan Jesus and David Neres carrying injuries. The Sardinians already secured Serie A safety with last week’s 3-0 win over Venezia, but Elia Caprile, Gianluca Gaetano, Leonardo Pavoletti, Zito Luvumbo and Mattia Felici were all injured.

Giacomo Raspadori’s angled drive skimmed the base of the far post, then he stood up a cross that Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa just failed to get on the end of.

Leonardo Spinazzola caught Tommaso Augello napping to spark a counter-attack, but Billy Gilmour first and then Matteo Politano couldn’t finish it off.

Amir Rrahmani stung Alen Sherri’s gloves from 12 yards, then Yerry Mina made a decisive block on Romelu Lukaku’s finish, as news filtered through that Inter had taken the lead in Como.

Mina also got in the way of the Spinazzola strike, with Sherri making a desperate double save to deny the Italy international left-back from close range.

The tension was growing, but for the eighth time in Serie A this season, McTominay broke the deadlock for Napoli. He held off a defender while having his shirt pulled and still managed the acrobatic volley on the turn from 10 yards on the Politano cross from the right.

Cagliari had the ball in the net too with Roberto Piccoli before half-time, but only after the offside flag had gone up.

Napoli doubled their lead with a classic Lukaku goal, who shrugged off Mina to control a long Rrahmani ball over the top, got away from Michel Adopo too and swept the finish past the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Lukaku had gone through and set up substitute David Neres to go one-on-one with Sherri, but this time the Cagliari goalkeeper made the save. Alex Meret’s first save was in the final minute on an Alessandro Deiola angled drive before the celebrations got started for Napoli’s fourth Scudetto.
