Nobody has more goal involvements at Sheffield United this season than Gustavo Hamer

Gustavo Hamer has made it clear he feels he belongs in the Premier League amid Sheffield United’s promotion push after past links to Leeds United.

The Brazilian has earned a lot of plaudits for his performances for the Blades this season, with the team currently second in the table.

The 27-year-old joined the Yorkshire outfit following their promotion in 2023, but the team was unable to survive in the Premier League with Hamer.

Chis Wilder is now looking to guide the club back to the first division at the first attempt, with the playmaker contributing seven goals and five assists so far this season.

Speaking with Dutch outlet Viaplay's Twitter account, Hamer claimed that he belongs back in the Premier League.

He pointed to his performances last season to suggest he proved that he can compete at that level, even as Sheffield United suffered relegation with a 20th-place finish.

“Yeah, yeah, I think so [that I belong in the Premier League],” said Hamer.

“I think that I can definitely handle it, personally.

“Because, well, we played in the Premier League last year of course, and I’ve already been able to show myself a bit in terms of scoring goals, creating chances and all that, things like that.

“So yeah, I do think I belong in the Premier League myself.”

Promotion rivals Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign Hamer, with Ben Jacobs reporting in February that the Whites are eyeing a move for him in the summer.

Gus Hamer’s impact at Sheffield United

Hamer arrived from Coventry City in 2023, and immediately cemented himself as a key part of the team under Paul Heckingbottom, and then Wilder.

He made 36 appearances in the Premier League, scoring four and assisting six goals, with the side coming bottom of the table.

He has continued to be integral to the side in the Championship, with no player being involved in more goals than him in the entire squad.

Next up for second place Sheffield United is a derby clash against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday on 16 March in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Sheffield United issued promotion warning

Sheffield United have been warned about the potential consequences of failing to get promotion this season by Hamer with these comments.

There will be a lot of speculation over his future at Bramall Lane if they are still in the Championship, with pressure expected to come from Leeds.

It is hard to see him remaining with the club if they aren’t in the Premier League, with Burnley breathing down their necks going into the final nine games.

Hamer stood out in the Premier League last year, and the Blades did well to hold onto him, as he is someone that could compete at that level again elsewhere, if not at Bramall Lane.
