Saturday’s defeat could prove the Italian’s last match in charge of the Nerazzurri

Simone Inzaghi conceded that his Inter Milan team looked “tired” as they were thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

Inter suffered their second defeat in the final in three years, following the 2023 loss to Manchester City, as PSG ran riot at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Inzaghi’s side, who had the oldest average age of any team in the knockout stages, were outclassed by PSG.

“They pressed well and deserved it, so credit must go to them,” Inzaghi said of the champions. “Unfortunately, we won no silverware this season, but I am proud of my players for their effort.

“I am hurting. Defeat can make you stronger. Tonight’s defeat hurts a lot, just like the defeat in Istanbul [to Manchester City]. But they were different matches.

“Tonight we were more tired than PSG. We played our league until last Friday. They won the league a couple of months in advance.

“Technically, they were stronger than us. We had to be clever but were not very well organised. We deserved to lose, bottom line.”

Inzaghi’s future has been uncertain in recent weeks after he refused to distance himself to reports linking him with the vacant managerial post of Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

“It’s not the right time to talk about the future,” he said after defeat in the final. “Since July of last year, we have played 58, 59 games and got to this final. It is awkward to talk about Inzaghi’s future now.

“We will be talking about the fact that we won no silverware this year, but these players deserve great credit and gave it their all.

“The club is strong. The club supports us. The club are with us in victory and defeat.”
