Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer was one of Inter Milan’s standout heroes as they sealed a dramatic win over Barcelona to punch their ticket to the Champions League final - and he called his crucial save against teenage sensation Lamine Yamal the most “special” of the night.
“I’m very happy, it was an incredible match. The team did something amazing tonight,” Sommer told Sky Sports Italia, after being named UEFA’s Man of the Match. The veteran keeper was rock-solid throughout, but it was his late intervention in extra time that truly sealed the result.
“That last stop on Lamine was a really special one. He’s an extremely talented player, always trying to cut inside and shoot. I’m just glad that shot didn’t go in,” said Sommer, who wasn’t involved in Inter's Champions League final loss to Manchester City in 2023, but will now get his first shot at European glory.
Inter now turn their attention to the final in Munich on May 31, where they’ll face the winner of the other semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal - the French champions leading by a goal ahead of their second leg clash against Mikel Arteta's side at Parc des Princes tonight.
