Southampton's 2-1 win over Ipswich showed promise, but they're still miles from relegation safety. But, an escape might be possible given they rigorously follow through on club icon Jose Fonte's plan ahead.

Don't you think if having a loyal fanbase were a league, Southampton would surely encircle the top spot? After all, in a not-so-decorated club, it's the fans' support that keeps them pushing for more.

And it's such fans who still believe in a relegation escape, despite knowing the club's season overall.

Interestingly, to aid their unwavering support, club icon Jose Fonte has come upfront. Speaking to BoyleSports, the Portuguese stressed how the next two fixtures can make or break Southampton's remaining hopes.

As quoted by the Daily Echo, Fonte said: "I think it's now or never for Southampton. They beat Ipswich Town and if they can beat AFC Bournemouth and Brighton at home they will have a chance."

Safe to say, Fonte's words capture exactly what Southampton needs right now.

The Saints, currently sitting on 9 points have a chance to jump to 15 if they secure these two wins. And what better time to ask this than from a motivated Saints side after the 2-1 win?

Certainly, Southampton will be in high spirits when they face Bournemouth in the Premier League next. But did I tell you the Saints can experience a massive double boost before then?

In an ideal world, Southampton would have Tyler Dibling and Taylor Harwood Bellis available against Bournemouth.

Notably, Dibling is expected to return soon. Further, though Harwood-Bellis remains ruled out against Burnley, the defender could come back by then.

In case, the Saints pull a win against Bournemouth, their next challenge becomes a lot easier. Having drawn a crucial point last time, Southampton's roaring confidence could be enough now.
